Topic: Negotiations for part time work

While I am on layoff and anticipating returning to full time work next week, I am also hunting for another part time job to make up some of the income I have lost while being on layoff.

That being the case, I am applying for mostly retail work and am curious as to what would be a negotiable salary?

I stated my salary requirements to be in the $9.00-$11.00 per hour range, in the hopes that it is not too high, as I currently earn more than that at my full time job.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Re: Negotiations for part time work

I think that $9-11 may be too high, but of course it is going to depend greatly on what kind of retail and what part of the country.  Retail often runs more in the $5-9 range, even in expensive areas.

You can't base this on what your other job pays unless your other job is also in retail.  Retail tends to be the kind of thing that is what it is, they tell you what they'll pay, you say yes too.  There isn't usually a lot of room for negotiating.

i agree with you on this olivia..i think daisy should ask or made some research first on what is the proper salary rate on this particular job..

Re: Negotiations for part time work

When you make a negotiation in your part time job, do you think it is you who is responsible for your rate? or your be you have to ask your boss? There are some who would ask your rate. Do you think it's not so awkward?  <!-- s:rolleyes: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt="" title="Rolling Eyes" /><!-- s:rolleyes: -->
