Topic: Company Never Mentioned Salary

I had a job interview the other day, and the idea of salary never came up. I personally didn't want to bring it up because it can be kind of awkward. They did state during my initial phone screening that it was in the mid 40's. It sound very fair for the position, but what does one consider to be mid 40's? They called me abck for a second interview, which went great. Now I'm waiting to hear from them this week and I am going to feel like a goober if they offer me the position and THEN i bring up salary. Any advice?

Re: Company Never Mentioned Salary

I would consider the "mid 40s" to be anywhere from from $44K to $46K depending, probably, on experience.  If you're offered the job without being told what the salary offer is, I think you're next question should be, feeling goober-ish or not, "What's the salary offer for the position?"  I think it's far more likely that if you're offered the job, they'll also tell you what the salary offer is at the same time.  It would be very unprofessional of them not to tell you the salary offer.  Depending on the salary offer, you can then either accept it or politely ask if it's negotiable and see what they say.  If it's not, and you want or need the job, accept it.  If the salary is negotiable and if you're asked what salary you have in mind, I'd be prepared to counter with a range.  Lets say you're offered $44K and you think it's a little low, based on your experience doing this type of work - and assuming they've told you the offer is negotiable - I'd counter by saying something like, "I was anticipating a salary offer in the $45K to $46K range," and see what happens.  But if you make a counter-offer you have to be prepared to state exactly why the JOB will be worth that much more to the employer because of how well your actual job experience fits the requirements of the job.  Zat help?
